The history of Thessaloniki begins in 315 B.C. In that year, Cassander of Macedonia founded the city before giving it the name of his lover: Thessalonike, Alexander the Great\u2019s half-sister. Over this city, edified like a profession of love, reigns a unique atmosphere. Situated at the far end of the Thermaic Gulf, Thessaloniki was originally at the crossroads of the great commercial routes of the day. With time, the city took on the persona of an industrial and commercial centre, enough for it to overflow with creativity. The beauty of its Byzantine churches made it a city of the arts, at the crossroads of many eras and cultures.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
