Full of mystery, the Converse is getting covered with a layer of white paint, the emblem of MMM. Each pair immediately becomes unique, since each wearer is; with every footstep you take, the paint will crack to reveal the color underneath. Entirely hand-painted, the 1970s Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell styles are getting a new touch reminiscent of Maison Margiela’s founder, who always cultivated minimalism and anonymity. For the buyer, this will be translated by the total impossibility of knowing which colors, black, blue, or classic red hide beneath their choice. A sunflower yellow color was especially made for this exclusive collaboration as well.
“The brand has always been fascinated by white. We use it like a layer that creates a feeling of discretion, unification. With time, the sneaker is unveiled, it’s poetic,” explains the brand. It’s true that the label is notorious for the juxtaposition, reutilization, and transformation of materials, as well as their attention to details. Covering the canvas, eyelets, shoelaces, and heels, the styles acquire a new solidity, as if you could deliberately massacre the whiteness. With this shoe that fits somewhere between street style and high fashion, Converse is imposing itself as a vehicle of creativity. The pieces will be available on September 24 at L’Eclaireur and Colette; the yellow Converses, however, will only be available in Maison Martin Margiela’s boutiques.
