What is the only object that brings Hollywood stars and classic literature together on the red carpet? Olympia le-Tan’s book clutches. Since 2009, the Franco-British designer has been mixing her two passions, embroidery and literature, by releasing clutches every season that feature the original covers of antique editions at the booksellers of New York, London, and even Shakespeare & Co in Paris: a veritable mecca of English literature amidst a bleak backdrop of French-language prose.

Tying her collections together around different themes that take on a life of their own thanks to the imagination of the stylist – one might recall her 2011 collection of embroidered luggage with invented hotel names and retro airline logos -, this year Olympia le-Tan has imagined her new line of bags as being an homage to the music of the 30s and the 60s.

This stylist constructs an entire universe around her creations, made by hand in France in super limited editions only. Last Fashion Week, all the crème de la crème of the fashion world went wild for the release of her latest 7-inch collection, featuring record sleeves of classic albums like Rock Around the Clock, Cry Baby Blues, and a few Louis Armstrong classics alongside her trademark books, this time chosen to be in sync with the Jazz theme.

For the same occasion, she’s created a ready-to-wear collection with prints designed by her father, famed illustrator Pierre le-Tan, and even soliciting a special guest appearance from Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes to sing her hit “Be My Baby”.

It’s an entire universe made in honor of Jazz and Blues as well as the premises of Rock’n’Roll, like a little girl’s dream of becoming a rock star come true.
