The famous sunglasses brand Ray-Ban launches a new collection of its iconic frames, The Wayfarer.
In 1952, the Ray Ban Wayfarer created by Roger Stegeman was born in the workshops of the mythical sunglasses outfitter. They differ from the fashionable models of the time because of their square shape and plastic frames, an innovative material at the time; before the appearance of the Wayfarer, most sunglasses had metal frames.
From its beginnings, the Wayfarer was worn and appreciated by the biggest stars; they rapidly became the frame of Bob Dylan, Andy Warhol, Ray Charles and Marilyn Monroe. Movies, television and music play a key role in the popularity of this famous model, the Blues Brothers made it an indispensable accessory in their wardrobe and Tom Cruise shines in Wayfarer in “Risky Business”.
The Wayfarer quickly won the heart of the general public and asserted itself as the cult model of many generations. The constantly updated collections hold the legacy of the brand through traditional practices, or more original copies are made like the ones in the summer 2013 collection.
This year, we find the Wayfarer decorated with flowers, patchworks or faux wood. The brand prompts us to make our own personalized model with designs on the outside and inside of the arms to create a bespoke style. In the e-shop of the brand, “RayBan Remix” offers its clients the possibility to create their own sunglasses in the Wayfarer and Aviator models. Timeless and iconic, the Wayfarer goes through the years without a wrinkle.
