Created in 2013 for designer duo Johanna Senyk and Peter Hornstein, the brand Wanda Nylon turns bad weather apparel into a game, rain or shine. Known for their plastic garments, the “plexi” trend is also incarnated in iconic pieces from the female wardrobe with the trenchcoat, the perfecto jacket, and the peacoat. The brand’s strongest asset: using innovative and surprising materials to boldly make pieces that are seldom revisited. The raincoat becomes transparent and allows the woman’s outfit to appear in an almost exhibitionist way, thus becoming the prerogative of a pointed elegance. Released in leopard or polka dot colors and prints, or more simply in burgundy or black, their pieces adapt to any look with playful ease.
The designers see through an avant-garde and futuristic lens inspired by Pierre Cardin and his vinyl boots to generate a universe that revolves around water, making way for a new aesthetic that mixes waterproof, fluidity, transparency, and comfort. Putting on a transparent PVC trench coat entails rustling the material, awakening the many senses of a woman: touch, sight, and hearing. In an almost space age universe, this luxurious rain wardrobe is made of recycled materials to get even closer to the natural elements celebrated by the brand. The two designers endeavor to find how to fashion the silhouette of the modern woman, giving her aspects of elegance and modernity all while bringing these notions together with the iconic nature of each piece as well as the performance of an explosive alchemy between creativity and functionality.
