“We thought of Dior’s Parisian girl going to London and becoming more eccentric,” explains Serge Ruffieux. Still in the process of naming a new creative director, Dior is now taking off for the English countryside to reunite with Monsieur Dior’s heritage. The choice of Blenheim Palace was no accident: in 1954, Christian Dior himself accepted an invitation from Princess Margaret to host a charity runway with a collection for the British Red Cross there. Four years later, Yves Saint Laurent was at the head of the brand and would host yet another extraordinary runway at Blenheim.

In 2016, the brand based on Avenue Montaigne is now presenting its 2017 Cruise collection here with a beige and black trompe l’oeil mini-dress coat as the iconic standout piece. Despite an alluring silk foulard with prints of various English clichés – umbrellas and patches of English countryside – it’s a pair of varnish boots that really capture the attention. The future “it” piece of the fall is presented in a two-tone cream and white version, perched on a baroque-disco golden heel and paired with thick black laces for contrast. These Dior Cruise 2017 boots oscillate between leathermaking tradition and a 70s look, making for pure style.
