The Tod’s “Gommino” is getting dressed up for spring 2015 with an accessory that’s well-known to the label’s fans: a “My Colors” braided leather bracelet. This is the meeting of two of the manufacturer’s icons that propel the Gommino’s aesthetics into an original universe. The traditional moccasin is enriched by this Scooby Doo-esque bracelet, an accessory that is placed on the upper part of the shoe, just like a lace enclosed by a cylindrical metal clip. This is how the emblematic “Gommino” collection is anchoring itself a bit more in modernity: upon contact with leather-tinged laces, elegantly paired with the upper portion of the shoe and adorned with a personalized horsebit made of tanned metal. Indeed, the novelty of the Gommino Club resides in the possibility of customizing your very own pair. Through a unique customization kit, aficionados of the “Gommino” will be able to choose the color and material for their shoe. Starting with soft, glazed, or suede calf leather, Tod’s customers will then be able to select the color shade of their leather from a total of 15 options. Next the bracelet has to be chosen from among 20 different shades. This triptych, left up to the whims of the acquirer, has more than 100,000 possible combinations! But the ultimate key to customization resides in the apposing of initials that can be engraved wherever you choose.
This project proceeds in the same way as the ordinary fabrication process developed by Tod’s artisans. Handmade, each shoe is part of the same tradition: cut, worked, and hand-sewn, these leathers bear witness to an unparalleled quality. It stands to reason then that you’ll have to wait two months before receiving your Gommino Club. Luckily, to make the wait a bit less painstaking, Tod’s is pitching in a membership card with every pair ordered, allowing the customer to track the progress of the fabrication process. The result: a “Gommino” that expresses every passion, character, style, and choice of any Tod’s customer…
