For winter 2014, creative director for the Carven label Guillaume Henry is signing off on a powerful line marking the evolution of the quintessential Carven kid. Gone is the little school boy look, and in it’s place arrives a young man knocking on opportunity’s door for the first time.

Amidst these remnants of youth, a sense of freshness still persists. Carven has thought up a new work get-up, generation-specific, far from the decrees of ages past. And yet, the brand is primarily taking its inspiration from the 50s: mid-calf ski pants paired with high socks are one example. Previously worn by mountain climbers, they give the line a more sporty allure. It seems that Carven imagines his children ending up in Paris “La Défense” business district. The silhouette of this new brand of elegance leads straight to the professional world, where everyone is striving to climb up the ranks. Just like a mountain. Just like a skyscraper.

This runway show was put together in the offices of the brand’s creative direction. Carven’s genius here is truly praiseworthy; playing with all the rules of men’s fashion, they invite us into a nostalgia that is rejuvenated by the boldness of youth. It’s time for the Carven man to blaze his own trail, with elegance, drive, and aplomb.
