The Tod’s runway opened up with an ode to leather through a performance by Vanessa Beecroft, setting the tone for the coming winter. The artist imagined a living canvas featuring, in addition to the brand’s historic artisan Toni Ripani in a white blouse, an array of models including one of the most “in” top models of the moment: Karlie Kloss. As if set in stone, the models were dressed in strips of leather that were assembled by the brand’s historic artisans, straight from the Tod’s factory in the Marche region of Italy.
Through this piece, Vanessa Beecroft and Tod’s wanted to celebrate a triptych that’s near and dear to the brand’s heart: art, Italian origin, and artisanal craftsmanship, without forgetting a glamour that’s here incarnated by Karlie Kloss. Nonchalant but graphic nonetheless, the collection works with leather on perfecto jackets, trench coats, and dresses perfected by unexpected accessories.
Within a minimalist but iconic style, the Tod’s Gommino was also imagined in new dimensions. Multi-functional and more sensual, the Winter 2017 Gommino becomes more versatile without turning its back on tradition. A tad more contemporary, with couture style and a double chain, it’s future now looks brighter than ever. Paired with skirts cut in leather and playing with pleats and metallic details, the accessory couldn’t have found a better way to be put in perspective. Just like the Italian craftsmanship that is also highlighted here, unpretentiously bequeathing the entire planet its singular raptures.
