Alexander Wang is going fast. Really fast. In the space of 7 years, this Taiwanese-American has incarnated the idea of “making it” in America. At age 20, he dropped out of Parsons School of Design, consumed by the desire to create. He then set out to produce knits, in a unique style that already smelled like classic Wang: three years were all the New York fashion genius needed to earn the recognition of his peers and the adoration of fashion editors. Amongst his admirers are Zoe Kravitz, Santigold, Kanye West, Erin Wasson, and Anna dello Russo.

With a seductive physique and a profound dark eye, Alexander is one of the few who brings fashion back to its fundamental essence as art. One of the few to create a real lifestyle. His could be summed up in three letters: M.O.D. aka “Model Off Duty”. His loose, minimalist, and chic cuts both inspired by and taken from the male wardrobe have proven to equal cool in its purest form.

But Wang grew up, as so many do. At the ripe age of 27, he’s honing his urban sportswear repertoire to create something a bit more “uptown”, without ever losing the gracious flippancy that characterizes his pieces.

More mature and consequently more couture, the teacher’s pet of fashion mags is giving the “Wang working girl” a new look: bold, borderline wacky, he’s offering up a limpid silhouette built in 3 layered parts. Leather is getting introduced to make for a darker look. Navels are peeking out beneath air tie crop-tops. And the entire package is paired with an ordinary pair of perfectly tailored pants. Ladies, this is what happens when downtown pizzazz meets uptown class!
