Straight out of the retro-futuristic universe of the 90s, the Fall/Winter 2015-2016 collection from the MM6 line ends up like a complicated chemical experience. Throughout the runway, very technical but still poetic pieces are to be discovered. By concentrating the DNA of the collection around the notion of survival, the MM6 Martin Margiela line couldn’t be a better fit its time nor its founder’s engagement. The survival concept is sometimes found in the reuse of materials like tarpaulin or recycled rubber, sometimes with researched effects that show the passing of time, like splotches of paint on work uniforms.
The result is able to reconcile two movements: Margiela conceptualism and the classicism of the pieces themselves, just like the opera glove. The MM6 sleeve glove is like a perfect excursion: made of black leather, reaching up the entire arm, it perfectly incarnates the idea of homey textures. Moreover, its rigorous shape brushes on hybridization, a successful fusion of a fashion that is reinventing the genre.
