Opening Ceremony gets its name from the legendary Olympics opening ceremony. A name borrowed from something that itself is a metaphor for openness to the world, Opening Ceremony is out to conquer new cultures, mixing art with fashion with absolute modernness. The bicephalous creativity of this New York-based fashion house is enamored with the photographic work of Spike Jonze that took place between 1985 and 2005, and is able to reify the art of Kodak and all its time-honored (or overexposed… but who’s counting?) colors into functional garments.
Among the 28 pieces that went down the runway, the Opening Ceremony shirt dress encloses and exposes everything that’s unexpected about the collection. A shirt dress with a minimalist cut that, in addition to its shirt jacket look, captures the eye with its pastel orange shade. Even better, mottled by the tempering of unexpected fabrics, the dress defines a laid-back and dressed-up silhouette. A beautiful relic of 60s formalism.
