Thanks to the imagination of Marco Zanini, the creative director invites extravagance into the here and now. For two years he’s reworked the inventions of the style pioneer that Elsa Schiaparelli was. She who played with the divided skirt created by Paul Poiret, who created the trompe-l’oeil sweater, she who dared introduce zippers into an Haute Couture runway, is today finding the contemporary echo that is rightfully hers. Certain creations of hers are iconic, like the lobster dress created with Dali, or her signature, “shocking pink”.
And the coming season is honoring this couturier’s eccentricity. Accompanying the 25 looks are some magnificent embroideries and coiffures inspired by the collection circa 1938, but first and foremost the iconic “shocking pink” that was so near and dear to Elsa Schiaparelli’s heart. An emblematic piece for this runway if ever there was one, one could only dream of spending the winter in this immense coral pink mohair coat with oversized sleeves. On the right shoulder, the designer’s initials are engraved, or rather embroidered – ES, two immense royal blue sequined letters. The end result? An admirably audacious silhouette.
