Peekaboo! While it may be a funny name for a bag, this is in reality the essence of its success. Imagined in 2008 by Silvia Venturini Fendi, creative director for the Italian brand’s accessory line, “the bag marked a turning point in 2008 because, in a period of craziness for ‘it bags’, it was able to look on the inside of itself, highlighting the uniqueness of its artisanal working with bold choices and no limits when it came to fabrics.” To describe the origins of this bag, one has to go all the way back to Silvia Fendi’s childhood memories. It should come as no surprise that the Peekaboo is crafted in the image of its namesake game – bold, surprising, playful, this bag is also imaginative in equal measure!

Just like the face that is covered and then uncovered, the two main sections of the Peekaboo can be opened and closed in the blink of an eye. Silvia Venturini Fendi took off from this idea to compose a purely chic bag: a bag with whispered elegance, but properly scruffy in its own right. Its two sharp pupils mirror the gaze of a crocodile (and they’re also stitched in real crocodile leather), while a voluptuous and classic shape works to soften the effect. By putting savoir-faire before shock effect to surprisingly reveal an intimate soul, the iconic Peekaboo can be worn open. This trend is anchored in a new idea that’s layered in a dreamy sensuality.

Appearing for the first time on the runways of Milan in 2008, the Peekaboo by Fendi soon became a must-have. Silvia Fendi talks about the word of mouth effect surrounding it. A “reference to a direction we took in 2009 with our Peekaboo bag. The desire to go back to a more subtle luxury, made of very precise codes that don’t change each season.” This bag labeled “Made in Italy” was named Vogue It Bag 2015 in its miniature version. Because yes indeed, the Peekaboo has been released in many sizes: micro, mini, regular, large… Practical and elegant at the same time, this rigid bag plays with a double clasp that can be worn open on one side and closed on the other. Resisting time with its absolute chic, the Peekaboo has been released in various fabrics, from supple veal leather to snakeskin with raffia in between. Abbey Lee Kershaw, Delfina Delettrez, Cara, they’ve all got their own…
