In 2014, Maison Fabre will celebrate its 90 years of existence. The story starts in Millau, France. Etienne Fabre, master glover, founded his enterprise there. Initially, he cut the leather himself with only his brother and a few stitches. Deeply attached to French savoir-faire and quality, this man would encourage his daughter-in-law Rose to create styles for the haute couture house. Highly imaginative, their first gloves transgressed the banality of the genre to give them a refined, authentic, and exceptional style. Gloves, long the prerogative of royalty, became a pretext to dress up men and women alike. Ever since, the French glover has been putting their savoir-faire at the service of designers who, like Christian Lacroix, Ann Demeulemeester, Sonia Rykiel, Chanel, or more recently Karl Lagerfeld, are all sensitive to the authenticity of their confections. Just for this holiday season, another prestigious collaboration is on the menu. Under the direction of Olivier Fabre, the magi gloves from the Jean Cocteau film âLa Belle et la BĂȘteâ will be reinterpreted. With Chantal Thomass in tow, the brand is paying homage to femininity itself.
âI really like gloves, theyâre an essential accessory. Maison Fabre is one of the last of its kind in Paris. Their creations are magnificent, artisanal, and high quality.â Itâs true that the gloves in the Maison Fabre x Chantal Thomass collaboration are almost like an haute couture line. From the most beautiful of fabrics are cut mittens, and short or long leather gloves that, adorned with touches of Chantal Thomass, acquire all the insolent sensuality of corsets and lace. Imagined by the stylist, with French lace cuffs, enclosed at the wrist by tiny buttons. The Cowboy fringed model in black or red Bengali lamb leather. The laced Maestro or long black and white Ecolier touched up with French lace… In the end, itâs a highly refined line, where glamour becomes dangerously desirable. Already available in Maison Fabreâs boutiques (in Paris and Versailles), the pieces are also being sold at the Bon MarchĂ© and Galeries Lafayette. One more thing: for Spring 2014, a lace and leather line will be conceived by the âAmazon warrior of sexy undergarmentsâ just for the label.
