“I thought that the internet and the screen would push us to conceive things that look good in photos, but not always in real life. So I turned the screen off this season. I decided to go back to total simplicity (…) I decided to do only what I see with my naked eye, only what girls tell me they really like, what they think is comfortable.” It’s said that to prepare this collection, Alber Elbaz crisscrossed Parisian cafés, coming to a seditious conclusion through his observation of the crowds: while designers conceive their collections out of the public eye, the women themselves don’t care. This was the starting point for a collection that’s focused on women and their aspirations. And at Lanvin, these women are (wo)manifold, with several facets, draped in fluid outfits. Lanvin is beauty, plain and simple. A renewed beauty, exacerbated by Alber Elbaz – his softness, his simplicity, his charm, his luxury, and his sensuousness.
The Lanvin girl is someone who can get dressed (and undressed) like none other. Next season’s collection puts these silhouettes – every last one of them – into fluid and refined slip dresses. The silk’s plum profoundness shimmers as the Lanvin lingerie dress seems to melt into the skin. Fluid, elegant, modern, the collection is so carnal that it becomes intimate. Quite simply divine.
