Robin Day, a reputable British designer, made a place for himself in the creative world with his famed Polyprop: the first chair to be made through an injection of molded polypropylene, it was functional and stackable. A few years later, he imagined an angular armchair with pointed, masculine lines. Made of leather, not plastic, for a more upscale version, the Leo saw the light of day in 1965. Intended for professionals and normal individuals alike, it offered exceptional comfort and seating. Its slogan confirms this: “Leo works well at the office and feels at home in your home.”

This little pearl of modern furnishing hasn’t escaped the sharp eye of Ken Adam, official decorator for the James Bond series. This is how it made it’s way to the big screen when, in 1967, Sean Connery laid back into one in between two chase scenes in You Only Live Twice. Due to his natural distinction and charming elegance, the Scottish actor successfully established a reputation for the Leo armchair, that would from then on incarnate class and timelessness with a masculine edge.

This year, Loft has decided to reissue this fixed-leg version, as well as a number of other classics by Robin Day. In collaboration with the British designer since 2000, Loft is offering the famous Leo with chrome legs and either beige or black leather. It may be inspired by its predecessor, but it still manages to inscribe itself into the contemporary, as explained by Andrew Donoghue, director of Loft: “it’s less bulky, more functional, and offers unparalleled comfort when equipped with its ottoman.” Prepare for a deliciously relaxing experience, worthy of the greatest masters of espionage.
