I Nuovi Principi, The New Princess. This is how Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana decided to name their new collection, introduced in Milan for Fall/Winter 2018. This season, for the first time, it’s millennials, all of them fils or fille de or Instagram personalities – like Rafferty Law, Sistine et Sofia Stallone, Jaden Smith, Presley Gerber, Brandon Lee, Cameron Dallas, Juanpa Zurita, Lucky Blue Smith, Stefanie Giesinger, Austin Butler, Avan Jogia, Cheney Chen, Pelayo Diaz, Lala Rudge, Tinie Tempah, Pyper America Smith, Sergio Carvajal, Luka Sabbat ou Dylan Jagger... . This certainly isn’t Dolce or Gabbana’s first time around the block. They were the ones who, in 2008, invited Bryan Boy, Tommy Ton, and Garance Doré to join fashion experts Anna Wintour and Suzy Menkes in the front row for their runways.
This year, the designers are paying homage to the generation born with a smartphone in hand. For next winter, their silhouettes are becoming a touch more urban, mixing ultra-quilted patchworks with down jackets in sizes that plunge down to the ankles, while cargo pants flourish here and there. In the heap of looks that went down the runway in Milan, it’s this bomber with childlike prints yet made in very noble fabrics that best represents the expression of their talents. With royal or imperial etchings and licorice colored velvet, the bomber teams up with a pair of bling bling shoes to bring more urbanity to D&G’s world.
