A quotation from philosopher Giorgio Agamben awaited viewers on each seat in the viewing hall: “The ones who are really contemporary are the ones who neither perfectly coincide with their time nor adapt themselves to its demands… The Contemporary is that relationship with time in which we adhere to it through a disconnection.” Fittingly enough, nothing in this collection is taken from the archives. The impression given is that of a naive youth, a bit lost, but shrewd nonetheless. Alessandro Michele clearly abandons Giannini’s heritage for a more romantic silhouette. His Gucci girl is innocent, no doubt, but she still inhabits her eccentric side. One of those girls that looks like they got their outfit in a secondhand store.
In the Michele era, even the coats are imbued with this artistic touch, taking on a vintage look in the process. The geometric print coat fits into a chromatic line where the predominant colors are beige and olive green. Its ambiguous design seems to be borrowed from the Necker cube, making the marvelous Pavin blue all the more fascinating. This psychedelic geometry is sure to have its fair share of admirers.
