With Hubert de Givenchy, the fashions elaborated and imagined for receptions and salons finally made it into the streets. He was indeed the first to launch a luxury ready-to-wear line. Ahead of his time, Givenchy advanced the desires of women. Pure lines, slim waists, an elongated body and a swan’s neck: this is what he conceived for the new female canon. In the 2000s, with the arrival of Ricardo Tisci at the head of the brand, an array of sober but efficient colors began to reign supreme: grey, black, beige, and white. Givenchy entered into an alliance of tradition and modernity. But starting in 2005, the creative director began infusing a somber romanticism and sensuality into the luxury codes of the brand… In 2008, Ricardo Tisci began sketching out the lines for a shoe that would soon become his label’s icon. Perfectly honed during the Pre-Fall 2012 collection, Ricardo Tisci would finally create the gaiter boots as the crowning masterpiece of his Fall/Winter 2012 collection. Optical illusion boots for urban cavaliers, Tisci included a coy nod to the male wardrobe as well.
This synthesis of athletic and aristocratic elements is the very definition of Givenchy’s avant-garde “urban couture” aesthetic. By imitating the look of pants worn over heels, and by choosing to cut the shoes in tweed, crocodile leather, or normal leather, Ricardo Tisci has brought us a shoe that is both sophisticated and full of surprises. With their modernity, their inventive cuts, and their inclusion of surprising details, the Givenchy gaiter boots are devilishly glamorous! A wedge heel, sharkfin zipper, and equestrian allure, the line is endlessly seductive… This optical illusion couture obsession is designed for a woman of character, gracious and liberated.
