“Make fashion, not war.” On a Tuesday, Karl Lagerfeld brought fashion into the streets. Following the Mademoiselle to a T, she who said: “There is no fashion if it doesn’t make it into the street”, the Kaiser went so far as to recreate a typical Parisian boulevard underneath the nave of the Grand Palais. The Haussmann-style buildings, the greystone asphalt… and the protests! Wearing colorful boots with a smile on their lips, the models strutted down the “boulevard Chanel”, brandishing signs with activist slogans. As for the prints, they set the tone for an energetic collection where the mixing and matching of pieces adds an artsy touch.
And that’s where the faux suit came in. A new answer to a classic equation turns the icon on its head in never-before-seen proportions. The classic Chanel jacket now has a trench collar, graphic geometric cut-outs, and, with the impetus of a crop top, flirts with a bolero all while the illusion of the cut detaches it from a 70s-influenced skirt. The sleeves are short and ample, with candy-coated colors, this piece unleashes a veritable onslaught of flower power. A “suit” that you can put on whenever you want, wherever you want. This army-chic style is more “lifestyle” than “fashion”, to take the word’s straight from the couturier’s mouth.
