The designer Carolina Herrera re-interprets one essential piece of our wardrobe, the “white shirt”, in a collection of eight styles. The designer has plans to add a new style every year to the collection to perpetuate that piece.
Like the little black dress or jeans, the white shirt is a timeless piece that can adopt various cuts, masculine features, lace, short sleeves or silk. She dresses all the silhouettes of timeless elegance. A piece, thanks to Coco Chanel, in the twenties, that women started wearing when she ditched the corset for a loose white shirt. Then in the fifties, Audrey Hepburn made it impossible to forget the time she wore one combined with a wide skirt. Or, there was Jackie O, who wore it with Capri trousers; Kate Moss wears them on their own under a jacket or cardigan with flat ballerinas.
It’s amazing how a plain white shirt can be fashionable, yet so versatile, making it iconic as a timeless fashion statement and perfect for all four seasons.
