1926: the style invented by Coco Chanel went for the essential. The cut was simple, the sleeves long, and the length to the knees. This monastic character made the dress a revolutionary fashion piece, completely against the tide.

2014: the piece gains even more tact and coquettishness to be worthy of a distant Orient. For the Cruise 2015 collection, Karl Lagerfeld made Dubai his new city to explore. By taking inspiration from the Orientalist work of Paul Poiret, the Kaiser recalls the dress/ pants duo for our times. Here, Gabrielle’s little black dress is thought up with punctured sleeves, but with fluid fabric at the knees, to be sported with a casual air on top of pants inspired by Arab traditions. Tight black pants fastened with silver buttons in the back give the Chanel silhouette all the enchanting charm of an Eastern princess.
