Hot on the heels of this discovery, he set up shop in London in 1891; 30 years later, he would become official outfitter at the Court of King Edward VIII. Associated with royalty, Burberry brought its Scottish print to the forefront, as evidenced by the King’s famous exclamation: “Bring me my Burberry!” Today, the print has little by little invaded textiles in cities everywhere and forged a character of its own.
Inspired by the Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Burberry put it on their glasses and sunglasses, transferring their characteristic ‘savoir-faire’ into the most minute details. The same qualities given to the trenchcoat can be seen here: the legs of the glasses are enveloped in leather, echoing the original coat’s buckle, while the bridge of the glasses is set on polished metal platelets, bringing to mind the metal fasteners that close at the coat’s collar. Thought up in the UK and made in Italy, this collection adopts all the different incarnations of the Burberry palette, uniting a honey-gold color with tortoise shell or black for the classic model. The elegance of restraint remains intact. Available starting March 2014, the brand gave us a preview of their uniquely British universe with the recent release of their perfume Brit Rhythm that promises to immerse you in the scent of Britain.
