After our selection of luxury convertibles for the summer of 2022, we offer you a selection of more accessible, but still desirable, top-of-the-range models. For those who like their cars upmarket, but not too flashy and luxurious, this selection is for you.
BMW series 4 convertible
The BMW 4 Series has recently been given a convertible version. The styling is more assertive and ‘sporty’ with a huge front grille that has been much talked about, but in the end seems to have become a standard feature. The BMW 4 Series Convertible is available with several conventional engines, both petrol and diesel, with the M440i version developing 374 hp. The 510 hp M4 is also available as a convertible.
Audi A5 convertible
It is the main competitor to the BMW 4 Series Cabriolet. It is the main competitor to the BMW 4 Series Cabriolet. Slightly older, the Audi A5 Convertible is still a desirable convertible and is available with a number of classic petrol and diesel engines, but also as an S version with a 3.0-litre TFSI V6 with 354 hp.
Mercedes-Benz class E convertible
The Mercedes C-Class has recently been renewed and will not be available as a convertible. However, the E-Class, which is still in the catalogue, could satisfy customers who are passionate about the starry brand and are looking for a comfortable top-of-the-range convertible. Available in both petrol and diesel, the sportiest model will be a 53 version with 435 hp.
BMW Class 8 Convertible
It is arguably one of the most stylish convertibles on the market. The BMW 8 Series made its comeback more than three years ago, and the car has recently received a little facelift. The program will be a minimum of six cylinders in line for the petrol and diesel versions, and a V8 for the top of the range and the sporty M8 version. The latter develops 625 bhp.
Mercedes-AMG SL
This year, the SL is back! But not just any car, this model was developed by Mercedes-AMG. It’s more of a sporty version than a convertible for cruising at a leisurely pace. Its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 develops 585 hp.
Jaguar F-Type Convertible
From the 300bhp four-cylinder to the big 5.0-litre V8, the Jaguar F-Type is an old-fashioned convertible like no other. The design dates back to the beginning of the last decade, but the model is still on the market and has a charm from another time. The British car is as sporty as it is comfortable and manages to remind us of some forgotten sensations.
Porsche 911 Convertible
It is without doubt the most iconic model in our selection. The timeless Porsche 911 is of course available as a convertible and offers the perfect synthesis of sportiness, comfort and refinement. There are many versions: Carrera, Carrera 4, 4S, GTS, Turbo, Turbo S. All these versions are powered by a flat-six engine that develops between 385 and 650 hp. Let’s not forget the very elegant Targa versions, which can be a good alternative to the convertibles.
Aston Martin Vantage Volante
In the same vein as the Porsche 911, the Aston Martin Vantage Volante is less common but just as desirable. The British convertible plays the exclusivity card with the 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 from Mercedes-AMG that develops 510 hp. It has almost all the qualities of a 911, except that it is more rare on our roads.
Audi R8 Spyder
To crown this selection, we chose the Audi R8 Spyder. The technical cousin of the Lamborghini Huracan Evo Spyder has a fabulous naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 engine that develops 570 hp for the RWD version and 620 hp for the four-wheel drive version. The sound of the V10 is exhilarating and is surely one of the most beautiful in the automotive industry.
