With the plot revolving around Yves Saint Laurent’s muse Paloma Picasso’s look, the Saint Laurent Tuxedo Jacket reasserts itself as a centerpiece of next season’s wardrobe.
Saint Laurent’s Tuxedo Jacket Is Self-Sufficient
« For a long time now I’ve wanted to transpose the introduction of Paloma Picasso and Yves Saint Laurent to one another, of which few people realise the importance when it comes to designer’s creative development. As a designer, I am sensible to this event as it marks the moment where Saint Laurent went from simply designing clothes to creating a style. », says Anthony Vaccarello, artistic director of the Parisian luxury brand.
Indeed, the absolute embodiment of the YSL style is the Tuxedo Jacket. Imagined in 1966, displayed by Catherine Deneuve, freeze-framed by Helmut Newton in a picture that became legend. The Saint Laurent Tuxedo Jacket accompanied feminine emancipation, giving them, if not the power, the look to achieve their new ambitions!
For SS 2022, Anthony Vaccarello made it into a fully-fledged item; when it is not imagined in a combination of pieces, the Tuxedo is worn with simple black tights and accessorised with opulent and colorful jewelry… A signature of the Paloma Picasso style.
Facing the Eiffel Tower, The Saint Laurent house thus presented a glamour hued collection, mix and matching feminine and masculine fits as a sort of hommage to the signature allure of Paloma Picasso. Besides, the fashionable move of the season, a clutch bag slipped in the belt of the pants, is very Paloma Picasso; on one of the many archived pictures, she poses as such with a theater brochure facing the paparazzi! Anthony Vaccarello needed nothing more to be inspired to pull off this very Saint Laurent gimmick.
