Baccarat goes back to 1764. Synonymous with unique craftsmanship, an absolute symbol of French art de vivre, this brand has has been inspiring renowned artists from around the world for over two centuries. This year, with the dexterity of Flos’ artisans, the Bon Jour Versailles collection is being released with Philippe Starck. The designer/architect himself best sums up the idea: “The Sun King was bored at Versailles. One day, he had a vision of a flash of lightning, new and magical, something other than his own sun that lit up his Hall of Mirrors. He dreamed about it and made it his heraldry. Several centuries later, Flos and Baccarat have created it by uniting high-tech and their timeless savoir-faire. And thus history became modern.”

The result is as sublime as it is fascinating: two styles of lamp available in crystal and polymethacrylate that finally resolve the paradox between industrial precision and artisanal craftsmanship. Somewhere between science and poetry, the Bon Jour Versailles collection is in fact the successor of a previous lighting collaboration between Flos and Starck entitled Bon Jour, and the Versailles candle holder by Baccarat. With inalterably light lines and an empirical modernity that anchors the collection’s two lamps, this collection evokes a collective memory of the past to open the door to a more sophisticated future.

The Bon Jour Versailles lamp is set on a transparent crystal or polymethacrylate base, cleanly chiseled so that its lines recall Baccarat’s most iconic pieces. Crowned with a chrome plateau, the lamp uses the unique and innovative LED Edge Lighting technology developed by Flos. Organic and warm light will thus be diffused throughout any space inhabited by these fabulous transparent optics. These objects, both utilitarian and sublime, were available at the Milan Furniture Fair in April.
