This precious feather first graced the Chanel brand’s creative path in November 1932 with the “Bijoux de diamants” collection. Mademoiselle Coco Chanel presented her first fine jewelry collection in Paris on rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, subdued by soft and gracious notes. The designer offered up, through these delicately glimmering jewels, some of the brand’s most timeless pieces: comets, stars, bows, and feathers. Among these unique creations, an oversized feather encrusted with diamonds garnered a fair share of praise. This “plume” brooch was a synonym of audacity and imagination for its wearer. Attached to a little black dress, a sunbonnet, or a tiara, the feather has established itself as a key piece and an essential symbol of the Chanel brand that can perfect the beauty of any woman.
The “Plume de Chanel” collection launched in 2010 is a gateway to the independent and creative universe of Mademoiselle Coco. Directly inspired by the “Bijoux de diamants” line, the “plume” brooch encrusted with precious stones is a veritable homage to her and establishes itself as the main piece within the collection. Alongside an array of diamonds, the feathers are released in the form of necklaces, bracelets, rings, and earrings. The graphic and voluptuous lines of these 35 pieces fit perfectly into the spirit of Chanel. Whether fallen from the sky, escaped from a down quilt, or perched atop a headpiece, the feather never ceases to fascinate with its grace and delicateness. It’s no doubt for this reason that it so well incarnates one of Chanel’s leitmotivs. Light and sensual, “Plume de Chanel” intertwines savoir-faire and creativity, taking soft and subtle inspiration from the Mademoiselle’s visionary spirit.
The feather brings us on a journey through the seasons. It flits about and caresses us, posing its light frame on the Chanel woman’s beauty. Light and carnal: this is how one could describe this cosmetics collection with the pleasant name “Plumes précieuses” that plays with contrasts and reflections. What could be lighter than a feather? A cloud of powder, a dusting of gold… This is how the collection becomes vaporous, soft and subtle shades, encrusted with gold and silver. This limited edition is reinventing the brand’s classics through an iridescent compact powder in the form of a “feather camellia”, or eyeshadow palettes with symbolic names such as “Oiseaux de nuit” and “Envol”. In the soft light of these precious feathers, seduction is at its height and creativity at its zenith. These variations of feathers cover a bold legacy and a desire for modernity that’s not going to take off anytime soon !
