The true DNA of Mercedes-AMG is motorsport. From 1967 until its affiliation with Mercedes-Benz in 1999, the cars of the Affalterbach firm swear only by exacerbated sportiness, with legendary models, such as the Mercedes-AMG C 63 which still appears today as one of the most successful sports sedans.
But as times change and history too, the electric era is now upon us. Mercedes-AMG has quickly abided and the new products presented by the manufacturers follow this direction, while still acknowledging what has contributed to the success of the brand for more than five decades.
After the Mercedes-AMG EQS, the brand launches its second 100% electric model with the EQE 53. The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 is different from the other versions by its grille, with vertical chrome struts, specially designed light-alloy wheels, the several AMG badges and many elements painted in a glossy black finish.
In essence, the silhouette of the EQE remains elegant, but has received some discreet touches of sportiness with shields and a diffuser optimized for aerodynamic matters. Engineers also added a front splitter and spoiler to increase downforce at high speeds.
On the interior, the changes are more subtle and the whole remains more luxurious and upscale than sporty. The dashboard is still dominated by the MBUX infotainment system and features new MB-Tex and black microfiber upholstery with contrasting red topstitching.
The vehicle’s powertrain is made up of two electric motors, positioned on each of the two axles, and powered by a 90.6 kWh battery. The battery has a recharging capacity of up to 170 kW, thus making it possible to recover electricity up to 180 km in 15 minutes. The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 promises a range of between 444 and 518 km in the WLTP cycle.
The EQE 53 delivers 626 horsepower and a total torque of 950Nm for an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h averaging 3.4 seconds and a top speed set to 220 km/h. With the AMG Dynamic Plus pack, performance increases to 686 horsepower and 1,000 Nm, with a 0 to 100 km/h shot in 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 240 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG EQE 53 will arrive to French dealerships in the upcoming months and will undoubtedly mark a turning point in the history of Mercedes-AMG.
