Man was light years away from thinking that he could one day set foot on the moon. And yet, he did it that fateful July 20, 1969. The cataclysmic 70s allowed Italian entrepreneur Giancarlo Zanatta to get inspired and create a pair of boots with a decidedly cosmic allure. Thinking of a name wasn’t rocket science; it was quickly dubbed the Moon Boot in every corner of the universe. The Moon Boot would soon became a universal cornerstone piece and an important precursor to 20th century trends.

What more could you hope for than these seemingly magical boots to take on bad weather or alien attacks? It wasn’t Mayan prophecies of the end of the world that boosted the Moon Boot’s success either; 22 million pairs were sold around the world well before December 22, 2012. The Moon Boot is more than just one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind. No, the Moon Boot is not yet done taking giant steps forward and bringing generations together. In 2000, in the midst of Y2K anxiety, a panel of artists and international experts from the Louvre chose the Moon Boot as one of the 100 most iconic objects of the 20th century. Ten years later, Earthlings were STILL alive and well, and celebrating the 40th birthday of the world’s coolest ski boots, with special thanks to Apollo 11, NASA, and Giancarlo Zanatta, without whom none of this would have been possible.

Nonetheless, certain Earthlings are under the impression that only white trash skiers stuck in the 70s with their raccoon tans and excessive use of lip balm still dare to rock Moon Boots. After all, James Bond didn’t even wear them in Moonraker…! Conclusion: Moon Boots are for Moon LOSERS. And yet, at 1300 meters above sea, the little Swiss village of Villars-sur-Ollon is still resisting invaders and wagging tongues alike. This is where the Moon Boot Lounge, a hip place celebrating design and the mythical pair of boots themselves, has set up shop. Astronauts and cosmopolites alike come to hang out after work or skiing, meaning that the Moon Boot has successfully blasted off into the highest of social spheres.

The Moon Boot is without a doubt synonymous with design, technology, fashion, and interplanetary success. Note to self: one day, when you manage to save up $400,000 worth for 30 minutes in space, after rigorously preparing yourself mentally and physically, the last thing on the to-do list for your galactic voyage will be to strap on a pair of Moon Boots!
