This is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG in history: the Mercedes-AMG One. After several months of waiting, the German firm has presented the final version of its supercar, a model developed in collaboration with the Formula 1 experts at Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains. Lewis Hamilton and David Coulthard were involved in the development of the car.
The Mercedes-AMG One is a hybrid supercar with technology taken directly from F1. It is powered by a 574 hp 1.6-litre V6 and four electric motors. One develops 163 bhp, two produce 326 bhp, while a fourth produces 122 bhp. The combined power (thermal + electric) is announced at 1063 hp.
Power is distributed to all four wheels via a seven-speed robotised gearbox. Performance is incredible, with 0-100 km/h claimed in 2.9 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds and 0-300 km/h in 15.6 seconds. T Top speed is 352 km/h.
The Mercedes-AMG One is equipped with a small battery with a capacity of 8.4 kWh, which allows it to achieve an all-electric driving range of around 18 km according to the WLTP cycle. This is the same battery as the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance. The battery can be recharged via AC current and the integrated 3.7 kW on-board charger.
“With the Mercedes-AMG One, we have more than pushed the boundaries. The immense technical challenges of making a Formula 1 powertrain suitable for everyday use on the road have undoubtedly pushed us to our limits. Many may have thought, during the development process, that the project was impossible to implement. However, the teams in Affalterbach and Great Britain never gave up. I have the utmost respect for all those involved and am proud of this teamwork,”said Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Mercedes-AMG.
In terms of dimensions, the Mercedes-AMG One is 4.76 metres long, 1.26 metres high and 2.01 metres wide. Despite its electric motors and battery, the engineers have managed to keep its weight under control at 1,695 kg thanks to the extensive use of carbon.
The car is based on a carbon monocoque chassis with aluminium running gear. It is mounted on 10-spoke forged aluminium wheels with central nut. Mercedes-AMG has integrated a high-performance ceramic composite system. The front wheels are fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 M01 285/35 ZR 19 tyres specially developed for the supercar, while the rear wheels are fitted with 335/30 ZR 20 tyres.
The front end features an impressive black skirt with various air intakes stretching across the entire width. Large air intakes are framed by U-shaped deflectors. The black air outlets on the bonnet help to divert the flow of hot air to the sides of the cockpit.
The rear spoiler is deployable in two parts. The design of the exhaust pipe, with a large round outlet and two additional small round openings, has been taken directly from Formula 1.
Inside, it’s a little more comfortable than an F1 car, but the feeling of being in a race car is there. There are two 10-inch screens: the instrument cluster screen is positioned slightly high in front of the driver, while the multimedia screen on the right-hand side of the centre console is angled towards the driver.
There are several comfort features directly integrated as standard, such as air conditioning and electric windows. The rear view mirror is replaced by a screen as there is no rear window.
All 275 units have already been sold, despite a price tag of 2.75 million euros. The first examples will be delivered later this year.
