For Karl Lagerfeld: “Sunglasses are like eyeshadow: everything looks younger and more beautiful with them”. More than just an accessory, eyewear is for Chanel a viable beauty product.
Chanel recently announced its new muse: Maïwenn, a modern legend in French cinema. The director was chosen for Chanel Eyewear’s Fall/Winter campaign after having worn a pair of their glasses in her last film “Polisse”. Chanel is confident in their decision. “With her natural beauty, Maïwenn perfectly embodies this elegant, feminine, no-frills campaign.”
Karl Lagerfeld has always gone against the grain in choosing his muses. After British top model Alice Dellal for the Boy bag, actress Vanessa Paradis, and Inès de la Fressange, Maïwenn is now joining the Chanel “club”. Conscious of the gravity of this privilege, she expressed her emotions in saying: “By walking down the mythical staircase of 31 rue Cambon, I realized that I was part of the Chanel house, which enormously moved me.”
It shouldn’t be long before the enfant terrible of filmmaking gets the hang of the fashion world. It’s no secret that Maïwenn is a huge fan of the label: “Chanel, for me, is a myth.”
We’re still waiting for the photos themselves, but in the meantime, Maïwenn has opened up about her photo shoot with Karl Lagerfeld: “The photos are extremely simple (…). A film set ambiance, I’m pretending to look for inspiration, to work on my lighting.” The glasses in the collection will no doubt embody all the elegance and simplicity that Chanel herself so loved.
