Louis Vuitton Perfumes

Starting in 2016, the return of the Louis Vuitton house to the world of perfumes came after 70 years of absence – the result? A remarkably inspired olfactory collection, which distils with 11 compositions the metaphor of travel… At Louis Vuitton!

Louis Vuitton And Perfume: A Voyage Of The Senses

Nourished by Louis Vuitton’s DNA, the house’s olfactory creations are inspired by travel … A journey of the senses which, in clear lineage with the oh so revolutionary heritage of the most legendary of French houses, calls for inspiration, dream and escape.

The Louis Vuitton headquarter in Grasse

If the Louis Vuitton house already linked its legend and its quest for excellence to the world of perfumery in the 1920s, it was a tragedy that occurred in the 1950s that put an end to this olfactory heritage. Because in 1928, the Louis Vuitton house put its sophistication in a composition with a very poetic name – Je, Tu, the first perfume stamped with the prestigious LV monogram. In 1946, Eau de Voyage was released as the house’s third fragrance.

But then in the 1950s, a violent fire destroyed all the formulas developed by the perfumers of the house. Not even a drop to inspire others … Perhaps out of discouragement, the house has not sought to retrace its olfactory history. Until 2016!

Perfumed Fountains

And it is to the master perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud that the house has chosen to give it another try! He being himself a child of Grasse, and son of a perfumer, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud thus orchestrated the composition of these Louis Vuitton fragrances, between tradition and cutting-edge technology … His starting point? None other than the olfactory domain of the house – an area called Les Fontaines Parfumées.

“The Louis Vuitton property in Grasse was founded in 1640, and we rebuilt and awakened what had been dormant for 70 years,” Jacques Cavallier-Belletrud specified in 2016.

Now a perfume house dedicated to olfactory creation for the master perfumers of Louis Vuitton, the building was indeed bought in 2013 by the LVMH group. Yet here is the cradle of Grasse perfumery – a land of roses and scents that the Vuitton house perfumer knows well …

Having joined the house in 2012, Jacques Cavallier Belletrud took the time to develop the scents that mark the return of Louis Vuitton to the heart of this dreamlike tradition.

The first seven perfumes created by the master perfumer have the genius of mature works: Rose des Vents, Turbulences, Dans la Peau, Apogée, Contre Moi, Matière Noire and Mille Feux.

Louis Vuitton Perfumes

Louis Vuitton fragrances are intensely inspired by travel. Jacques Cavallier Belletrud himself traveled the five continents – noting the scents that tickled his senses; new emotions, too!

Thus, the first seven Louis Vuitton scents actually capture these essentially solar olfactory adventures… The Rose des Vents, for example. A real olfactory sensation that reveals all the feminine lightness. The Apogée fragrance is an immersion in nature… Delicate and powerful!

Dans la Peau, meanwhile, is a perfume that tells about the carnal side of a fragrance. Carnal also in that it evokes leather as an olfactory infusion linked to the natural leather of Provence!

The success of these first 7 tales was such that the house continued to capture the Louis Vuitton spirit in other creations.

11 compositions, including such enchanting names as Cœur Battant – a fragrance that invites you to listen to your instincts and live each moment passionately.

Among them again, Attrape-Rêves – an undulating translation of the fascinating natural phenomenon that are the Northern Lights … A composition all the more surprising as Jacques Cavallier Belletrud has mixed in it a cocoa as airy as an enchanting journey!

Louis Vuitton Perfumes: New Creations

Finally, the latest addition to the collection in 2020 is called Heures d’Absence. “I imagined Heures d’Absence in this spirit: to pay homage to jasmine, rose and mimosa from Grasse, with an exclusive extraction very close to what one smells in the open field, and bring them together in an abstract field of flowers, as when the wind is charged with scents. An airy and almost unspeakable fragrance, which nevertheless freezes an indelible memory in the mind.

Like a voyage that one wishes to last forever, Louis Vuitton perfumes carry with them the dazzling promise of travel. Especially since their bottle, designed by Marc Newson, leaves the eye dreaming of all possibilities with its minimalism!
