Olivier Rousteing presented the Balmain Autumn/Winter 2022 collection nodding to the Jolie Madame with a cheeky twist!
Jolie Madame Balmain: But Olivier Rousteing recreates it in lace
Passementerie, lace and bandages all combined into sexy silhouettes. Although Olivier Rousteing has reinvented the Balmain style he never forgets its heritage.
The embroidery, dramatic shoulder pads and emphasised waists are all part of Balmain’s femininity. These signatures are reintroduced throughout this fluid collection which was Olivier Rousteing’s metaphorical response to social media, following a photo he posted depicting his serious burns from a fire.
Expressive, vulnerable and strong, the A/W 2022 pieces experiment with body armour, graphic fencing gear elements, protective clothing and compression pads to exhibit fashion which is perceptive to the times.
However, the remarkable return of the Jolie Madame Balmain designs turned heads amongst the array of dresses which echoed the houses’ first signature codes which appeared in their catwalk in October 1945.
A predominantly monochromatic collection, featuring luxurious and elegant gold tones. An ode to couture’s legacy and to Balmain’s body empowering vision in refined, sexy and very Parisian designs!
