Entitled “À Travers le Désert”, Issey Miyake is introducing its vision for Spring/Summer 2018 beneath a blazing sun. On the grand stairway of the Université Pierre et Marie Curie – a place that fits the theme which, according to Yusuke Takahashi “looks like a dune” – the Miyake man is taking on a number of stylish combinations made for action and movement. The label’s iconic codes and fabrics are all here, such as pleats which are this time executed by creative director Yusuke Takashi. “I was greatly inspired by a book from the 70s called Issey Miyake: East Meets West and I studied the brand’s archives,” he explained. “The wide silhouette from those days is back in fashion, but I wanted to modernize elements by using technical fabrics like polyester and nylon,” the designer explained.
This work with fabrics can be found in a pair of iconic Miyake pleated pants. With a complexion between the movements of the body and that of the fabric, the piece focuses on double-face cotton, a signature of the brand since the 70s. Giving this man freedom, comfort, and the possibility to explore the desert seems to be Yusuke Takahashi’s main idea. It was during one of his own travels in the desert last year that he got inspired. These pants can be read two ways, since a shrinking technique also gives them a wavy effect that traces the curves of sand in the desert.
“What we’re offering are daily garments that creative people can go to work in,” explains the creative director. This comfort and refinement has long been put forward by Issey Miyake Men who today, thanks to innovative fabrics, are leaving pieces free of any overage. Easy to wear, easy to maintain, this wavy texture is born from treated jacquard cut with wool, polyester, and cotton. This iconic piece can be discovered in stores next year!
