Since the 1920s, Gabrielle Chanel revolutionized fashion by freeing women’s bodies from restrictive clothing. A fan of outdoor activities, she integrated a “Sport” workshop into her Couture House in 1921, creating clothes that allowed unprecedented freedom of movement. Marinières, wide pants, and jersey dresses became iconic pieces of this new style.
It is this spirit of freedom and movement that the house of Chanel captures today in its Haute Joaillerie Sport collection. Patrice Leguéreau, Director of the Jewelry Creation Studio, aimed to celebrate “the elegance of line and the freedom of movement” in each piece of this collection, shining with craftsmanship.
Haute Joaillerie Sport Chanel: Tribute to Sport, Speed, and Movement
With the Haute Joaillerie Sport Chanel collection, the house once again reinvents its iconic codes in a sporty universe. The number 5 becomes a countdown, the lion is featured as a badge, and the quilted pattern appears on a medal. The Chanel signature is reimagined in an openwork, breathable, and dynamic motif.
The jewelry in this collection stands out for its dynamic wearability thanks to carabiner clasps, sliding loops, and flexible tubular chains, reminiscent of a jogging cord. The contrasts of vibrant colors, such as blue, green, and red, opposed to the whiteness of diamonds, and the textured faceting of precious stones create a lively and dynamic aesthetic!
In this collection, the eye is inevitably drawn to the Graphic Line necklace. Designed to enhance the body’s freedom and the elegance of movement, it is adorned with a 10.15-carat cushion-cut sapphire, part of an exceptional set of five stones from Kashmir.
The chevron motif and the tapered lines of baguette rubies totaling 24.35 carats evoke rhythm and speed, while the back of the necklace, crafted with as much care as the front, reveals the name Chanel for the first time in high jewelry.
The Graphic Line ring, adorned with a central 6.36-carat sapphire from Kashmir, is illuminated by two lines of diamonds, one of which plays with the shapes and brilliance of the stones. A row of custom-cut sapphires structures this creation, giving it a distinctive graphic style… A direct homage to Gabrielle Chanel’s vision.
It took more than five years of research to assemble this unique set of gems from Kashmir, harmonized in color, size, shape, crystal, and brilliance. This invaluable and incomparable collection of 42.86 carats includes five cushion-cut sapphires of 17.18 carats, 10.15 carats, 6.36 carats, as well as a pair of 4.40 carats and 4.77 carats.
