In 1913, Gabrielle Chanel opened her first haute couture boutique in Deauville, making it THE resort town. She presented her comfortable jersey fabric clothing, but also her hats, with an extremely elegant and modern simplicity.

100 years later, Karl Lagerfeld, current creative director for the brand, is taking advantage of the launch of his latest cruise collection to celebrate the opening of this first boutique. Just for the occasion, Keira Knightly, muse for the perfume Coco Mademoiselle, has been chosen to play the famed Coco in a short film directed by Karl himself. Clothilde Hesme will incarnate the sweet Adrienne, aunt and close friend of Gabrielle Chanel. Other models like Stella Tennant, Tallulah Harlech, and Caroline de Maigret may also have been chosen to act alongside the leading ladies.

Mademoiselle Chanel’s personality and fashion marked 20th century fashion, notably through the creation of iconic objects become classics. Goethe himself said: “Make a better future with broadened elements of the past”. The hundredth birthday of the double-C brand could thus be the occasion to breathe new life into legendary icons like the camellia, the bicolor shoes, the quilted bag, the tweed suit, and maybe even some diamond jewelry…This event is set to be celebrated in Singapore next May.
