Environmental friendliness is where it’s at today, and Stella McCartney may just be to thank for it. The proof is her new small format Falabella tote bag. The British designer, a strict vegetarian, conceived this bag out of respect for the environment. Proud in her convictions, Stella McCartney doesn’t use any leather. The Falabella is made of cotton, silk, wool… and no animal hides!
Even the bag’s name is inspired by a race of miniature horse, one of the designer’s passions. “The Falabella is a bag of character, with no pretentiousness.” For her, “fur or animal skin isn’t an obligation to be creative and have success.” Whether carried by hand or worn with its strap, the Falabella has already seduced the likes of Victoria Beckham, Charlize Theron, and Naomi Watts. Sometimes a part of their daily lives, sometimes taken out just on special chic occasions, the Falabella bag is both chic and urban. Simple, trendy, sleek, and elegant, the Falabella is everything at once. Recognizable with its supple shape and emblematic chain band, it plays with the contrasts between rigidity and suppleness, distinctly part of the masculine-feminine ambivalence that Stella McCartney fancies so.
The Falabella is thus composed of ivory-embroidered faux fur and adorned with a chain edging made of diamond-cut ruthenium to form handles and a magnetic clasp. This masterpiece is alluringly simple. Stella McCartney recently called on a few artists to help launch her new unique and artistic Falabella line. David Foox created a dyed and daubed it-bag that recently went up for auction with the proceeds going to various environmental organizations. Stella McCartney’s work can be summed up as being original and creative, with a particular breed of aesthetic nonchalance.
