The Dior Haute Couture Fall 2024 Collection, under the artistic direction of Maria Grazia Chiuri, celebrates the convergence of fashion and sport with a bold tribute to the form and freedom of the female body.
Dior Haute Couture Fall 2024: Bar Suit and Peplum
Inspired by the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024, Maria Grazia Chiuri reinvents the classics of Haute Couture through the lens of athletic performance, evoking the challenges overcome by athletes from antiquity to the present day.
âHaute couture affirms the political value of the female body,â she explains.
The centerpiece of this collection is the peplum, a garment from Ancient Greece, interpreted here with daring modernity. The peplum, flexible and absolute, becomes a symbol of Dior’s feminine strength and fluidity. Maria Grazia Chiuri revisits it using unexpected materials for couture: jersey. This fabric, presented as metallic mesh in gold, silver, and white, embraces the silhouette while being reinforced by an ultralight inner bustier.
Draping, a visual reference to classical statues, dominates the Dior Haute Couture Fall 2024 runway with silk dresses magnified by embroidery and moirĂ© jacquard skirts. Pleats, often sewn down or left open to accompany movement, reappear in many pieces. Ensembles where the draped skirt reveals a pair of pants with each step, as well as goddess dresses hanging from one shoulder, reveal transparent metallic tank tops trimmed in satin. These elements demonstrate Maria Grazia Chiuri’s ability to merge sport and haute couture.
Maria Grazia Chiuri also introduces elements of sportswear into this collection, marking a bold departure from traditional couture conventions. A sports jersey is adorned with gold leaves or micro sequins, transforming a functional garment into a piece of haute couture. Red, the color of life according to Christian Dior in his Little Dictionary of Fashion, enhances the show with a piece adorned with mosaic mirrors, defying its utilitarian function to become a fashion statement!
