A collision of two universes from opposite sides of the globe? The perfect occasion to remaster the carré scarf! Hermès and Comme des Garçons are teaming up, with reverence for tradition and a few stipulations. It took three days for Rei Kawakubo, the brains of the Comme des Garçons operation, to accept Bali Barret’s proposition.

The former, a known introvert, taciturn and seemingly immune to comments of a complimentary nature, seems to have found a relationship of mutual benefit in the creative director for Hermès women’s line. By reworking the artwork for the scarves on a white background, Rei Kawakubo is giving them a fresh makeover and, in a way, making them her own.

The end result is a limited edition of five poetically redesigned scarves, all of them incorporating Hermès Pegasus motif in a range of abstract styles. A chessboard overlaying the horse’s coat of fur, a DaVinci-esque pegasus, an explosion of a dozen.
