Maria Grazia Chiuri showed a new vision of the Dior wardrobe for her 2022 Pre-Fall collection. It is inspired by women that surrounded the founder- designer: Dior’s sister, Catherine that inspired the name Miss Dior, Mizza Bricard who was his muse and Marguerite Carré who was responsible for Dior’s ideas coming true. And it is the very biography of Christian Dior that inspired Maria Grazia Chiuri to make a wardrobe somewhat different than usual ultra-feminine vision of Dior couture. She says:
“The first thing that struck me was reading his autobiography Dior and MeHe seemed to use more nuanced narration than the monolithic mythology that was incorporated into his posthumous story. He could make a stern gray suit or the Miss Dior couture dress full of flowers. This contradiction is part of the beauty of fashion.”
In the newest Dior’s 2022 Pre-Fall collection femininity is diverse. It can be seen for example in silhouettes that are uniform-like. The statement of intent elaborates on that: Maria Grazia Chiuri is interested in school outfits but especially the way students get rid of formal character of their clothes; they personalize it with little punk-like elements, the search of freedom in urban landscape.
The result? Dior Gray, the gray color chosen by Dior himself to decorate the rooms of his maison de couture, is present in many of the precisely cut pieces. Pieces which, sometimes as well, combine another iconic symbol of the house- canework.
Present since the first show of Christian Dior, the canework is an ideal motif of maison Dior. From jewelry to Lady Dior- it shows the prestige and majesty.
So there it is, put into the new collection that is meant to inspire the sorority. This is the ambition of Maria Grazia Chiuri since she became the head of the artistic direction of Dior.
