Alexander Wang invited his guests to a historical place: the RKO Hamilton Theater in the heart of Harlem. This theater, built in 1913 and closed since 1965 was once a boxing training center, a church, and even a nightclub. With these walls housing Alexander Wangâs runway, next season could only be charged with an insubordinate attitude. This is without a doubt one of his strongest collections in recent years. With the exception of a few Prince of Wales prints, the Fall/Winter 2017-2018 collection was entirely black; the style is in the cut.
With skirts, washed-out black jean jackets, jersey t-shirts, and a whole lot of leather, Alexander Wangâs girls make silver the ideal accessory for their wardrobe. With extra-slim leggings, high-waisted leather pants, oversize blazers, and mini-dresses with graphic cuts, Wangâs style is back in action.
Drawing his aesthetic power from the energy of the raucous streets of New York, Alexander Wang brings off-duty models into contemporary realities. Too bad if the chic allure and sexiness of leather doesnât resonate universally, because the streets belong to them. Donât get short with Wangâs girls: their style spreads out further than the clichĂ©s it incarnates – on the runway and in the streets, Wangâs girls are far from the image of women that society seeks to impose. In leather pants with remarkable fasteners, the metallic bursts of buttons and zippers recalls the restrained rage of these sleek beauties.
