For the 2024 season, this iconic piece takes on the appearance of a denim jacket, crafted from the finest quality cashmere.
Since its founding in 1903 in Hawick, Scotland, Barrie has been renowned for its unparalleled expertise in cashmere knitting. The house, integrated into Chanel’s Métiers d’Art in 2012, stands out for its ability to blend tradition with innovation, creating pieces that transcend eras while being deeply rooted in this historical craftsmanship.
Barrie sources its cashmere from the best producers, ensuring exceptional quality. Each thread is carefully selected and custom-dyed, then precisely knitted to create pieces of unmatched softness and warmth.
The fabrication process of each Barrie denim jacket takes approximately nine hours, involving nine distinct steps, many of which are done by hand. Details such as worn or washed-out areas are skillfully knitted, not embroidered, highlighting the technical expertise of the manufacture.
The Barrie denim line also includes overshirts, wide-leg jeans, skirts, and shorts, all available in a color palette ranging from black to various shades of blue. The pieces are knitted from custom-dyed cashmere threads blended with cotton to achieve the perfect texture and hue. This color palette captures the essence of denim while adding a sophisticated touch.
For the launch of this cashmere denim capsule collection, Barrie has chosen to collaborate with muses embodying the spirit of the collection—Indian model, artist, and activist Amrit, and Scottish actor Lewis Gribben. The collection will be available starting September 2024, online and in Barrie stores, and showcased in an exclusive pop-up open from September 27 to November 30 at 23 rue Cambon in Paris, an iconic location representing Chanel’s heritage!
