Since occupying the head of creative direction at Courrèges, Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillent seem to have re-injected an effective dose of avant-garde and style into the brand’s iconic codes. With experimentation, sci-fi, and a love of clothing and fabrics, the designer duo is committed to going beyond the limits of the body to invent or reinvent silhouettes as unique as they are desirable each season.
Exactly 50 years ago, Courrèges started production of their eponymous collection in the same place – within these very ateliers on rue François 1er in 1967. For Fall/Winter 2017-2018, the duo made the choice of a presentation-style offering that was a throwback to the very first runway. They took the time to explain their creative process to those in attendance, since Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant love to put the garment, its construction, its technicality, and its intellectualism at the heart of all of the label’s activities. Photographed by Reto Schmid, the resulting portraits were exhibited in the room, closing the circle of a progressive show.
